BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
After GEORGE LANCE (England, 1802-1864)
"The Red Cap". 1878.
Oil on canvas.
Signed "A. Liendens".
Measurements: 50 x 40 cm.
Oil painting that reproduces the table "Red cap" of the British artist George Lance, painted in 1847. Lance was a specialist in still lifes, and this work, with its abundance of edible elements, evokes the opulence of the Dutch still lifes of the Golden Age. The work depicts a still life in a stone niche with vegetables, a wild duck, and a monkey wearing a red jacket and cap. The monkey's red cap is a direct reference to the revolutions that were taking place in Europe in 1847, making it a work with political significance in addition to its artistic value.
