"Young Bacchus."
Oil on canvas.
Measurements: 86 x 70 cm; 99 x 84 cm (frame).
Nineteenth-century copy of the oil painting "Bacchus fanciullo" by Guido Reni, now preserved in the Galleria Palatina of Palazzo Pitti in Florence, Italy. The work dates from around 1620 and depicts a young Bacchus, the Roman god of wine, wearing a crown of vine leaves and grapes. The painting shows Bacchus as a handsome young man, with rosy cheeks and a sly look directed at the viewer. He wears a crown of vine leaves and grapes, and holds a bowl of wine. A small putto accompanies him, carrying a jug of wine. The work is notable for its subtle play of light and shadow, which highlights the softness of the skin and the richness of the details, such as the fabrics and the decoration of the jug. The copy we show captures the seductive character of the character, emulating the classicist style of the master, filtered by baroque teachings.
