John Horace Hooper was an accomplished British landscape painter who worked mainly in oils. He was born in Manchester, but developed most of his career in London.
Hooper was one of a group of Victorian artists who settled on the muddy banks of the Thames. He was inspired by its silvery delights, often dimmed by passing clouds. His compositions, robust and balanced, often focus on a wide expanse of water.
