The painting captures a river scene in a moment of twilight. The scene is organized around a placidly flowing river. The viewer's eye is led from the large rock in the right foreground to the figures in the water and, finally, to the grove of trees on the left and the mountainous landscape in the background. This composition creates a sense of depth and space. Warm golden light tints the horizon and is subtly reflected in the clouds and the surface of the water. The sky, with its dramatic clouds, contrasts with the tranquility of the water. The small human figures - two people wading in the river and another sitting on a rock - are harmoniously integrated into the landscape. They give scale to nature and add a touch of everyday life, a characteristic feature of Realism, of which Martí Alsina was a great exponent.
