DESCRIPTION
ANTONIO FABRÉS COSTA (Barcelona, 1854 - Rome, 1936).

The frame is in very bad condition.
Measurements: 34 x 29 cm; 76 x 68 cm (frame).
Painter and sculptor formed between Barcelona and Rome thanks to a scholarship, the latter was the place where he met the works of Fortuny, painter who will influence him tremendously throughout his career as an artist, especially in the realization of works of orientalist theme. As for his biography, Antonio Fabrés soon achieved success as a watercolorist, creating precious illustrations for books and publications. He was awarded the second medal at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in 1886, and in 1894 he opened his studio in Paris. In 1904 he was called to Mexico to occupy the position of inspector general of Fine Arts, and there he was also director of the Academy of San Carlos. Fabrés was recognized in all the cities he traveled to, being acclaimed in Barcelona, London, Paris, Vienna and Lyon, and participated in the Venice Biennials of 1897 and 1910. He is represented in the Prado Museum, the Fine Arts Museums of Barcelona, Granada and Buenos Aires and the Mathaf Gallery in London, as well as in various private collections both in Spain and abroad.
