DESCRIPTION
Possibly LORENZO CERDÁ ( Mallorca; 1862-1955).
"Portrait of a peasant.
Oil on canvas glued to board.
Measurements: 27 x 20 cm; 50 x 44 cm (frame).
This Portrait of peasant presents stylistic and thematic characteristics that suggest a possible authorship of Lorenzo Cerdá, Majorcan painter active at the end of the XIX century and first half of the XX century, known by his realistic approach and his interest in portraying the rural and popular life of Majorca.
In this work, the detailed and sober treatment of the face, as well as the meticulous attention to the peasant clothing, refer to Cerdá's concern for representing with dignity and precision the human figure linked to the agrarian world, a recurring theme in his production. The sober palette, with earthy tones and restrained lighting, is also a hallmark of Cerdá, who sought to reflect everyday reality with authenticity and sensitivity.
In addition, the sober and direct composition of the portrait, centered on the figure and without unnecessary distractions, coincides with the pictorial language that the artist developed to give prominence and respect to his models, avoiding idealizations or excesses.
