BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

JOAQUIM MIR TRINXET (Barcelona, 1873 - 1940).
"Landscape.
Oil on cardboard.
Signed in the right angle and located on the back.
Measurements: 22 x 28 cm; 45 x 50 cm (frame).

Landscape of Joaquim Mir, that reflects in a very characteristic way the chromatic sensibility and the vibrant brushstroke of the artist. The composition presents a natural view of hills and vegetation, resolved by means of wide spots of color and a loose, energetic and visible brushstroke, which builds the landscape more by sensations than by descriptive detail.

Intense greens, blues and earthy tones predominate, modulated with luminous shades that suggest the incidence of natural light on the terrain. The relief of the landscape is articulated through superimposed planes and chromatic hallmarks, creating depth and dynamism. The atmosphere is serene but vibrant, conveying an almost emotional perception of the environment, an essential trait in Mir's mature work.

The work is signed in the right corner and placed on the back, a common practice for the artist. It is an intimate format that preserves all the expressive force of his painting. An excellent example of modern Catalan landscape painting, where color, gesture and light become the true protagonists.

Joaquín Mir is today considered the most outstanding representative of Spanish post-impressionist landscape painting. His work is preserved in the National Art Museum of Catalonia, the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, among many others.
