DESCRIPTION
PEDRO FERRER CALATAYUD (Valencia, 1860 - 1944).
"In the blacksmith's shop".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 23 x 37 cm, 48 x 60 cm (frame).
Formed in the Superior School of Fine Arts of San Carlos, Pedro Ferrer was a painter, restorer, illustrator and choreographer. His painting is part of the prolific marine school to which artists such as Sorolla, Monleón, Juste and Salvador Abril belonged. His splendid interpretation of the sea led him to show his work at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Madrid (1895), where he presented his painting "Salvamento de un náufrago", which earned him the Cross of Isabel la Católica. Thanks to this work, Pedro Ferrer was awarded the Gold Medal and Diploma of Honor at the Regional Exhibition of Valencia in 1909. After the Civil War, the Valencian artist directed the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia. Ferrer is considered one of the best representatives of marine paintings, which he interpreted through a realism amalgamated with impressionism. His work is represented by the Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia.
