DESCRIPTION
JUAN PEYRÓ URREA (Villanueva del Grao, 1847 - Valencia, 1924).

Juan Peyró cultivated genre themes and portraits. He began his formation in the Valencian School of Fine Arts, where he was a disciple of the painter Francisco Domingo Marqués. In 1867 he moved to Rome to further his studies, he attended the Academia Chigi and the studio of Mariano Fortuny. He stood out as a decorator with his work of ornamentation of the Café de España (Valencia), in collaboration with Antonio Cortina and José Aixa. He participated assiduously in the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts, and obtained two third medals in 1871 and 1876 and a second in the edition of 1878, with the canvas entitled "A las armas!", painted a year earlier. In 1882, he returned to Rome, where he frequented the circle of the Benlliure brothers. Later he returned to Valencia, where he developed his teaching career, where he was director of the School of Arts and Artistic Trades and was also a professor at the School of Fine Arts, where he became a corresponding academician.
