CONSTANTINO GÓMEZ SALVADOR (Valencia, 1864-1937)

Formed in the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos, he worked the different pictorial genres of the moment, especially the landscape, but also painted pictures of history and of costumbrista subject matter. He belongs to that very prolific Valencian generation of between centuries, being a fellow disciple of Joaquín Sorolla, Cecilio Pla and Salvador Abril. He was a regular participant in the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts, where he won awards in 1887, 1892 and 1912. He was also awarded in the Regional Exhibition of Valencia in 1909 and in the International Exhibition of Panama in 1916. For some years he taught in Manises and in the School of Industrial Arts of Valencia.
His work is one of the most solid examples of Valencian regionalism of the time. The influences of romanticism and nationalist movements encouraged this type of work that would last in our pictorial field for a certain time. Along with this painting, he also practiced with energy the theme of landscape, where he shows his solid training, the accurate mastery of the genre and a select taste for color. On some occasions his works are reminiscent of Ignacio Pinazo.
