Meifrèn shows us an everyday port scene of the Empordà town, one of the most recurrent enclaves in his production. The composition is articulated around the sheet of water, treated as a space of reflections and transparencies, where the boats and the coastal architecture are dissolved by means of a loose and vibrant brushstroke. The presence of barely sketched figures reinforces the costumbrista character without detracting from the luminous atmosphere of the whole.

The work is fully in line with Meifrèn's Mediterranean impressionism, characterized by the use of a clear palette, the capture of the instant and the interest in the effects of light on water and surfaces.

Eliseu Meifrèn i Roig was one of the main representatives of impressionism in Catalonia. He trained at the Llotja School in Barcelona and furthered his studies in Paris, where he came into contact with the modern currents of European painting.

He exhibited regularly at the Sala Parés in Barcelona and participated in numerous national and international competitions. His work is preserved in important institutions such as the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC), the Museo del Prado, the Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao, as well as in numerous public and private collections.
