DESCRIPTION
RAMÓN MARTÍ ALSINA (Barcelona, 1826 - 1894).
"Roses".
Oil on canvas, glued to cardboard.
Signed.
Measurements: 37 x 29 cm; 45 x 38 cm (frame).
The bouquet, resolved with a rich range of roses, yellows and deep greens, is constructed through luminous fillings that give volume and texture to each petal. The composition, intimate and serene, reflects the artist's interest in direct observation and chromatic sensitivity, close to the Parisian pictorial environment of his time.
Ramón Martí Alsina was the true promoter of the modern Catalan school. Trained in Barcelona and deeply influenced by his stays in Paris - where he became acquainted with the painting of Vernet, Delacroix and especially Courbet - he introduced in Spain a renewal based on working from life and on a direct and truthful vision of the environment. In his last years he evolved towards a freer brushstroke, close to impressionism. His work is preserved in the Museo del Prado, the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, the Museo Nacional de Arte de Cataluña, the MACBA, the Museo de Montserrat and the Museo de l'Empordà, among other collections.
