DESCRIPTION
ALBERT HUBERT (Austria, 1878-twentieth century).
"Scoglio de Monacone in front of Capri", 1905.
Oil on canvas.
Signed and dated in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 114 x 148 cm; 137 x 170 cm (frame).
This marine, exponent of the realistic language of Albert Hubert, was conceived during his stays in Italy, fundamental periods that defined his creative maturity. The work captures the physiognomy of the Scoglio del Monacone, an iconic rocky islet that emerges in Mediterranean waters, off the southeastern slope of the island of Capri.
A self-taught painter, Albert Hubert specialized in landscapes and still lifes. His travels to Italy, Spain, Scandinavia and the West Indies allowed him to develop his talent as a landscape painter. Finally, he settled in Berlin. In the summer of 1911 he exhibited his work at the Schulte Gallery.
