LUDWIG GEBHARDT (Munich, Germany, 1830-1908).
"Lake between mountains".
Oil on canvas.
Signed and located in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 73.5 x 103 cm.
Through this alpine view, Ludwig Gebhardt reaffirms his legacy within the German landscape tradition of the nineteenth century. The work reflects a delicate balance between the lyrical emotion inherited from Romanticism and the commitment to geographical veracity, achieving a balanced composition that demonstrates the artist's ability to give the landscape a monumental and serene presence.
Ludwig Gebhardt was a 19th century German painter specializing in landscape painting, trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he developed an academic style influenced by late Romanticism and German landscape realism. He devoted himself mainly to depicting natural scenes of Bavaria, the Alps, the Tyrol and northern Italy, noted for his attention to detail and his sensitivity to atmosphere and light. Although he did not achieve the international fame of other artists of his time, he participated in important exhibitions such as the Glaspalast in Munich and his work continues to appear in private collections and auctions, being valued as a representative part of the German landscape painting of the nineteenth century.
