Napoleonic history painting is characterized by its epic and narrative character. As in this occasion, it shows decisive moments - battles, proclamations, triumphal entries or heroic episodes - treated with a carefully structured composition. The scene is organized by means of dynamic diagonals, hallmarks of light and shadow and a theatrical arrangement of the characters, which guide the viewer's gaze towards the protagonist. The treatment is detailed and meticulous, especially in the uniforms, standards, horses and armament, which provides historical verisimilitude and visual richness. The palette can oscillate between sober and earthy tones in battle scenes, with dramatic skies and charged atmospheres, and more luminous colors in ceremonial representations.
