Valencian painter formed in the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos, Vicente March completed his studies in Rome, in the academy Chigi. Later he also traveled to North Africa, where he began to paint orientalist themes. During his life he received numerous awards and honors, such as the silver medal at the Regional Exhibition of Valencia (1881), prizes at the exhibitions of Berlin and Munich in which he presented his work regularly since 1888, the silver medal at the International Exhibition of Rome (1893) and, as the culmination of his career, the appointment as Knight of the Order of Charles III that the Spanish Government granted him shortly before his death. In 1994 the city of Subiaco dedicated a retrospective exhibition to him. The bulk of March's work is distributed in Germany, Belgium, Brazil, England, United States, Argentina, France and Sweden. In Spain his work has little representation, and is concentrated in the hands of individuals.
