DESCRIPTION
BARTOLOMÉ MONGRELL MUÑOZ (Valencia, 1890 - 1938).
"Still life".
Oil on board.
Signed and dedicated in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 33.5 x 19.5 cm, 45.5 x 31.5 cm (frame).
He began his artistic training with his cousin José Mongrell Torrent (Valencia, 1870 - Barcelona, 1937), a disciple of Sorolla and Pinazo.
He studied at the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos in Valencia, where he was appointed professor of preparatory studies of coloring and had the opportunity to demonstrate his well-established artistic culture.
He was an academic painter who excelled in Valencian themes, mainly in regional Valencian costumbrista painting, where he showed his mastery of chromatism, heir to Valencian luminism, although somewhat ascribed to modernism, which gives him a more personal and brilliant style.
He also excelled in portraits and in his work as a poster artist, highlighting some of the modernist posters for the Valencia Fair.
Some of his works are in the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Valencia, the Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia, the Museo de la Ciudad de Valencia, the Museo Mariano de Valencia, the Diputación Valenciana, the Ayuntamiento de Valencia and the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de la Habana, as well as numerous private collections.
His work of great quality in the capture of light and the reflection of different textures such as copper objects or bird feathers. In this work a country party is represented in which different characters appear dancing and celebrating with typical costumes of huertanos and musical instruments. The background is a country landscape very rich in detail and color.
