The figure appears represented with a serene and sure attitude, establishing a direct visual contact that confers to the composition a remarkable psychological intensity. The young woman wears a green dress with a wide neckline, accompanied by a barely outlined shawl that blends lightly into the pictorial ensemble. Her hair, arranged according to the feminine fashion of the 1920s, contributes to situate the image within the cultural and aesthetic context of her time. The work is characterized by a simple and balanced structure that concentrates all the attention on the portrayed figure. The frontality of the pose, together with the proximity of the frame, eliminates secondary narrative elements and reinforces the direct presence of the character. This resource, frequent in modern portraiture in the first decades of the 19th century, allows the artist to focus his interest on the expression of the face, on the relationship between the model and the viewer, and on the exploration of the plastic qualities of color and light.
The pictorial treatment reveals a sensibility typical of French painting of the time, in which the academic heritage of traditional portraiture coexists with a tendency towards formal simplification and greater freedom in execution. The brushstroke, possibly loose and economical in certain passages, contrasts with a greater attention to the definition of the face and bust, where the painter's descriptive effort is concentrated. This difference in treatment suggests a deliberate hierarchy of compositional elements.
