DESCRIPTION
CARL STEPHEN JUNGE (United States, 1858-1926).
"Hunters."
Drawing in cardboard and chalk on paper.
Signed in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 39 x 27 cm; 42 x 30 cm (frame).
Landscape painter and marine of American origin, although he developed great part of his artistic career in Europe, especially in Italy. He is known for his Mediterranean coastal scenes, views of ports, villages by the sea and luminous landscapes executed with a sensibility close to impressionism and luminism. His works are notable for their tranquil atmosphere, the delicacy of the light and a loose but refined brushstroke. Junge frequently painted Italian landscapes - such as Amalfi, Capri or the Neapolitan coast - which enjoyed great popularity among international collectors in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
