DESCRIPTION
JOAN BRULL VINYOLES (Barcelona, 1863 - 1912).
"Landscape with figures".
Oil on canvas.
Signed.
Measurements: 130 × 80 cm.
Joan Brull Vinyoles builds a scene of lyrical and symbolist character, where the landscape becomes a dreamy space. Under a grove of golden and greenish tones, several feminine figures advance in a serene, almost choreographic attitude, integrated in a vaporous and crepuscular atmosphere.
The composition stands out for the verticality of the trees, which envelop the scene and accentuate the sensation of seclusion. The soft palette, with pinks, greens and veiled blues, reinforces the idealized character of the work, closer to a poetic vision of nature than to a realistic description. The figures, light and ethereal, refer to the feminine and symbolist universe characteristic of Brull.
Joan Brull Vinyoles studied at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona and completed his studies in Paris with Raphaël Collin. After his beginnings linked to realism, history painting and genre painting, he evolved towards an idealistic and symbolist language, characterized by blurred contours, pearly tones and female figures with a poetic atmosphere. His work is represented in the Prado Museum, the MNAC, the Museum of La Garrotxa and the Museum Art Nouveau and Art Deco Casa Lis, among others.
