The painting depicts a young peasant girl dressed in traditional attire—a white blouse, an ochre corset or vest, a vermilion skirt, a blue headscarf, and wooden clogs. In her right arm, she holds a wicker basket lined with straw and filled with fresh eggs, a subject particularly favored in nineteenth-century genre painting for its idyllic, rural atmosphere.
The figure stands in the foreground, turned slightly in a three-quarter pose, her innocent gaze directed toward the viewer. The rendering of the face reflects the gentle idealism inherited from classical academicism and popular artists such as William-Adolphe Bouguereau and Jean-Baptiste Greuze. The background features a rustic wall in neutral, earthy tones with the subtle silhouette of a vine or small tree on the left, allowing the central figure to stand out through the contrast of her clothing and the warm light bathing the scene.
