This work depicts a landscape that combines oil paint with mother-of-pearl inlays, following the example of contemporary Chinese and Japanese lacquerware, which often incorporated this material as a focal point of light against the red and black backgrounds typical of lacquer. The landscape also evokes an Eastern atmosphere, featuring pagodas and a meandering river that reflects the moonlight.
