José Civil Picarill was a Spanish painter and watercolorist associated with the Catalan art scene, active during the first half of the 20th century and specializing primarily in landscapes and floral compositions. His work falls within a figurative tradition with naturalist roots, characterized by attention to drawing, the study of light, and a particular sensitivity to color—qualities especially well-suited to the transparency and spontaneity of watercolor, a technique that played a prominent role in his body of work. Civil Picarill was an active participant in Barcelona’s exhibition scene; a solo exhibition held at the Sala Barcino in Barcelona in 1943 is documented.
