BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
FERNAND DUBUIS (Sion, Switzerland, 1908 - 1991). "Nature-morte and melon", 1947. Oil on canvas. Signed, titled and dated on the back. Measurements: 34 x 52 cm, 37 x 55,5 cm (frame). Fernand Dubuis was born in Sion in 1908. After a few months at the School of Drawing in Lausanne, he moved to Paris at the end of 1930 and until 1933 he attended various painting academies (Colarossi, Ranson, Grande Chaumière). In 1934, he was in the studio of Maurice Denis. He crossed his Parisian training with study trips to Rome, Florence and Venice. From 1940 to 1945 he was in Geneva. At the end of the war, he returned to Paris. From 1952 he lived six months a year in Gordes (Vaucluse), which he only left to settle at the Château de Tertre in Normandy, owned by Roger Martin du Gard. First seduced by cubism and Severini's theories that he met, he evolved towards a pictorial art where the only values of color should, without reference to nature, give life to the painting.
