DESCRIPTION
PEDRO SOBRADO (Torrelavega, Cantabria, 1936).
"Peasants at dusk".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 59 x 72 cm; 76 x 90 cm (frame).
A self-taught painter, Pedro Sobrado held his first exhibition in 1959, in the Sur gallery in Santander. Two years later he moved to Paris, where he settled until 1976. In the French capital he exhibited at the Salon des Surindependants and in several galleries and, once in Spain, he showed his work in galleries in Madrid and Santander, as well as in Chicago in 1998. His painting is characterised by the use of a drawing of sober and forceful lines which predominates over the use of colour. However, colour does not lose prominence as it occupies large areas of the surface. His works usually show modern people developing their most social stage. Pedro Sobrado's work has achieved greater relevance in France than in Spain, as he has received more awards in France. He has received the Medal of Arts, Sciences and Letters, among other awards. He is currently represented in the Fine Arts Museums of Bilbao and Santander, the Museum of Don Quixote in Guanajuato (Mexico) and in the collection of the Government of Cantabria.
