Troels Carlsen is a Danish artist who works in a wide range of media, including collage, illustration and installation. Inspired by skateboard culture, Carlsen discovered graffiti in the mid-1980s. Troels Carlsen is known for his precise figurative and surrealistic works on paper, inspired by historical scientific and botanical illustrations. His works focus on human relationships with the animal world. The Redeemed Part 3 (2017) illustrates Carlsen's process of painting directly on ancient prints while revealing his sensual appreciation of human anatomy. Birds and tigers are a recurring theme throughout his work, with monkeys being a particularly popular motif. Although best known for his works on paper, Carlsen also produces sculpture.
