Josep Santilari's work is inextricable from that of his brother Pere. Trained at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Barcelona, they usually make their paintings together. Their style, which both define as realistic, sometimes approaches hyperrealism. Many of their works are painted with four hands, but even if this is not the case, only they are able to identify the pieces that are the work of one or the other, since they share the same taste, the same idea of what painting should be, the same technique and even the same view of the world. They are part of a new generation of Barcelona painters that began to be recognized in 1999. The gallery owner Artur Ramon has been their discoverer and dealer. They have been awarded the Epígrafe 35 Prize of the City Council of Barcelona, the Eugeni d'Ors Prize, or the Grant for young artists of the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1982. Their works are part of the collections of institutions such as the Fundació Vila Casas, the Banc Sabadell Collection, the Barcelona City Council and the Ministry of Industry. They capture the reality of classic themes such as still lifes, nudes and urban landscapes.
