Painter, draftsman, illustrator and sculptor, Gaston Pujol was formed in the Parisian workshops of Eugène Lami and Fernand Cormon, where he met painters like Toulouse Lautrec, Paul Tampier and Emile Bernard. After some time in the French capital, he moved to Barcelona. He then competed in the Fine Arts Exhibition of Barcelona in 1891. In 1892 he exhibited a notable group of works in the Parés room. In 1898 he collaborated as a graphic illustrator, thus beginning a new facet in his production, with the landscape painter Juan Gil y Gil as his disciple.
