Painter of urban and natural landscapes, still lifes, portraits and subjects of figure, Maria Carrera combines the artistic practice with teaching, which he exercises in the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid. She belongs to the 1963 generation, which reacted against the dominance of abstraction by seeking new ways for figuration. He studied at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, and received his doctorate from the Complutense University with a thesis on the painting and aesthetics of Juan Ramón Jiménez. In 1962 she obtained a scholarship to further her studies at the Florence School of Art. Later she was invited by the Italian government and received a scholarship from the Juan March Foundation. Throughout her career, María Carrera has held a hundred solo exhibitions, both in Spain and abroad, and has also received national and international awards.
