Painter and sculptor, Joaquim Santaló studied with Ramón Sanvisens, Teresa Yacer and Helena González, in 1978, and that same year he began his teaching career in the academy of Adelina Gaeta. In 1983 he joined the group BLAUVERMELLIGROC, and the following year he graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona. In 1987 he opened his own painting workshop, and in 1995 he created the School of Landscape in Marçà, Tarragona. In parallel to his active teaching career, Santaló began to be recognized in Catalonia in the late seventies, when he was awarded in several painting competitions. In 1982 he was awarded the Painting Medal of the Círculo Artístico de Sant Lluc, and in 1984 he received a Special Honorable Mention at the IX Bienal del Vino de Vilafranca del Penedés. In recent years he has also been awarded the Accésit of Sculpture in the Pere Jou de Sitges Prize (2000), and the First National Prize of Alternative Sculpture Camel Arte 04 (2004). A monograph on his work was also published in 1983 as part of the "Joves reraguardistes" collection of the Ámbit publishing house. Santaló made his debut in 1979, and since then he has held exhibitions in Spain, Holland and Japan.
