BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
DON CLARKE (Birmingham, 1932- Mijas, Málaga, 2012).
"Red monk", Mijas (Málaga), 1985.
Acrylic on board.
Signed and dated in the lower right corner.
Frame with damage and slight marks on the pictorial layer.
Measurements: 80 x 70 cm; 100 x 88 x 5 cm (frame).
Heir to his Irish father's painting hobby and his Scottish mother's sculptural passion, Clarke soon stood out as an artist in Mijas, the Spanish town to which he moved. His passion for painting led him to travel to countries such as Greece, Holland and Italy. In Italy, the restorer Mario Montini passed on his knowledge to him, after which he began his career in England as a commercial artist. His works, according to his own colleagues, perfectly blend hyperrealism and Venetian technique.
