This painting of the Spanish school of the XX century presents a nocturnal scene loaded with mystery and sensuality, in which three feminine figures dressed in traditional costumes stand out. The woman in the foreground, dressed in black and adorned with red roses on her chest, holds a fan decorated with flowers and looks directly at the viewer with an enigmatic and serene expression. Her pale skin contrasts sharply with the dark background and the intense colors of the dresses and accessories. Behind her, another female figure with her back turned, dressed in red tones, suggests movement and depth, while in the semi-darkness a male face can be guessed observing from the shadows, increasing the dramatic tension of the scene.
The general atmosphere is imbued with a theatrical and evocative air, with a dim lighting that highlights certain elements and plunges others into darkness. The background, which resembles a dimly lit street or square, reinforces the dreamlike character of the composition. This work is a clear example of the symbolism and influence of late romanticism in 20th century Spanish painting, with echoes of Goya and Zuloaga, exploring themes of identity, femininity, and mystery with a rich palette and charged atmosphere.
