Ximo Amigó is an outstanding contemporary artist whose work is characterized by the appropriation and transformation of everyday elements into artistic supports. With a degree in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia in 1989, he has developed a career marked by experimentation and reflection on identity, memory and visual culture.
His work has focused on the intervention of objects and traffic signs, to which he gives new meanings through painting and collage. These pieces, which in their original form have a clear and functional message, become vehicles of artistic expression that question established norms and propose a new reading of the urban environment.
Among his most recent exhibitions is "FlashBack", presented at the Museo de la Ciudad de Valencia between September 2024 and January 2025. In this exhibition, Amigó used 43 traffic signs as a support to represent scenes from films that have marked his life, such as The Executioner, Napoleon or King Kong, as well as compositions by Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer and Vangelis. The exhibition offered an immersive experience that combined visual art, film and music, inviting the viewer to travel a route impregnated with signs and personal memories.
Another relevant exhibition was "Señas de identidad", organized by the Bancaja Foundation in Sagunto in 2023. This exhibition brought together 40 works created between 2020 and 2023, in which Amigó intervened traffic signs to explore basic geometric shapes such as the square, the circle and the triangle. Through these interventions, the artist stripped the signs of their original function, turning them into supports for new messages and meanings.
Throughout his career, Ximo Amigó has had more than 40 solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous group exhibitions, establishing himself as a key figure in contemporary art in the Valencian Community. His work is part of important private and institutional collections, both in Spain and abroad.
