BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
EDUARDO ALCOY (Barcelona, 1930 - Mataró 1987).
"Surrealist composition".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner. Signed and dedicated on the back.
Measurements: 54 x 81 cm; 66 x 94 cm (frame).
Alcoy's career was focused on advertising and graphics, disciplines that gave him thoroughness and a detailed finish in his work. His unique dedication to painting took place in 1970, when he came into closer contact with different agents and artistic-cultural circles. A constructivist language was born, linked to cubism in terms of the conception of forms, which led him to the volumetric study of surfaces. His compositions have a vocabulary full of symbolism, stairs that come out of nowhere and lead to nowhere, demons with articulated arms, half faces without foreheads, clocks, numbers, animals, balconies, bushes, Ku-klux-klan figures, quixotes, madmen, frames, fish, hats, crows, bullfighters, cross-eyed women, monocles and, suddenly, an enormous emptiness. Alcoy always has a tragic fantasy whose poetic and dramatic humanism recalls the magical vertigo of El Bosco, but always with a bitterly sarcastic and poetically emotive background.
