This work of Catherine Favier is inscribed within the abstract expressionism, current in which the pictorial gestuality and the chromatic intensity become primary vehicles of the subjective emotion. The composition, constructed by means of broad overlapping brushstrokes and hallmarks of saturated color, particularly reds, greens, yellows and ochers, generates a visual tension that refers to intense states of mind. The non-figurative structure of the piece allows form and color to operate as an autonomous language, evoking a sensorial and emotional experience rather than a narrative. In this sense, the work is aligned with the expressionist tradition of exploring interiority through the pictorial, renouncing all mimetic representation.
