Joan Gil begins his formation in Paris, to continue later in the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi, in Barcelona, of which later he will also be a teacher. Since 1924 he participates in various group exhibitions, as well as in competitions and official contests, being awarded in the National Exhibitions of Barcelona in 1941 (third medal) and 1944 (second medal). He held his first individual exhibition in 1925 at the Layetanas Galleries. He exhibited again in that gallery in 1931, later exhibiting in many other galleries in Barcelona. In 1975 he held his last exhibition at the Gaudí Gallery. Specialized in landscape, portrait and dance themes, he cultivated a realistic language of impressionist heritage, characterized by a special sensitivity for color and light. Works by Joan Gil are kept in the MACBA and in the Instituto del Teatro.
