After being formed in the Artistic Circle of Sant Lluc in Barcelona, Josep Domènech debuts individually in 1980, in the hall of La Caixa, in the same city. Later, he held solo exhibitions in the halls of La Caixa de Pensions (1983), the International Painting Fund (1985, 1988, 1990), the De Caso (1989, 1990) and Kreisler (1991) galleries in Barcelona, as well as in the Appia gallery in Lyon (France, 1992). He has also participated in various artistic competitions, being awarded the Young Painting Prize of the Sala Parés (Barcelona, 1974), the Prize of Honor of the I Bienal Nacional d'Art a l'Esport (1985), the First Prize of the Salón de Arte de Martorell (1987) and, in Terrassa, the Third Prize of the Certamen de Dibujos Josep Marqués and the Ricard Camí Prize. He has also participated in important group exhibitions, such as the one held at the El Cisne gallery in Madrid (1979) or the Contemporary Masters of Spain in New York (1990). Domènech cultivates an intimate and poetic figuration, marked by the atmospheres and glazes of matte colors, blacks, siennas and grays which, supported by his expressive chiaroscuro and geometric synthetism in the composition, bring his style closer to abstraction. He is represented in the collections of the Generalitat de Catalunya and in the Museum and Center for Sports Studies.
