Pair of paintings of oval format representing two Venetian views, conceived as a set, framed in openwork frames. The work on the left shows a canal crisscrossed by gondolas sailing between historic buildings crowned by a slender bell tower, evocative of the famous Campanile of St. Mark's, although it may be a local church. The scene on the right widens the perspective towards a wider canal, where the silhouettes of gondolas gliding languidly in front of the imposing dome of the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute, a jewel of Venetian baroque, stand out. Both compositions, realistic and meticulous, capture with rigor the lake atmosphere, the vibration of the waves, the reflections and refractions of the water, as well as the animation of pigeons and passers-by, inserting details that give each scene a subtle genre narrative.
