Sculptor and ceramist from Barcelona, Claudi Casanovas began studying theater, to later train as a ceramist in Olot. He was a member of the Cooperativa de Ceramistas de Coure between 1978 and 1987, and in 1992 he won first prize at the III International Ceramics Competition in Mino, Japan. Throughout his career, Casanovas has held important exhibitions all over the world, in countries such as Japan, Canada, Germany, France or the Netherlands, in institutions such as the Roman Museum of Nyon (Switzerland), the Museum of Contemporary Art of Oostende (Belgium) or the Kunstforum of Kirchberg (Switzerland). Likewise, in 2004 he won the competition for the realization of an anti-fascist monument in Olot, a piece entitled "Memorial als Vençuts", which was installed in 2006. After the realization of this monument, Casanovas will begin to explore the possibilities of engraving, research that will crystallize in his series of aquatint engravings "Aürt", his large-scale engravings "Tree. Immobility in the landscape" and other outstanding works.
