Chema Cobo had his first individual exhibition in 1975, and since then his work has been shown in galleries, museums and art centers all over the world. He studied Linguistics at the Autonomous University of Madrid, and in the mid-seventies he was part of the group of artists of the Buades Gallery in Madrid, firm advocates of figuration. In the early eighties he enjoyed a grant as artist-in-residence at P.S.1 in New York. Between 1993 and 1994 he was a visiting professor at the Art Institute of Chicago, and upon his return he was awarded the Andalusia Prize for Plastic Arts. Chema Cobo is represented in leading museums around the world, including the Reina Sofia in Madrid, the Metropolitan and MOMA in New York, the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome, the Museums of Fine Arts in Bern and Bilbao, and the Museums of Contemporary Art in Madrid, Malaga and Valladolid.
