Ergüin was born in Bilbao, having his first contact with painting at the age of 14 when he made several watercolors of great technical quality. In 1946 he began his studies at the Diocesan Seminary and in 1951 he left the ecclesiastical career to begin his painting and drawing studies at the trade union school, with professors José Lorenzo Solís and Salinas. In 1958 he set up his first studio on María de Muñoz Street in the city of Bilbao and began a series of trips that took him to Paris, where he painted his first landscapes from life. In November 1958 he received the First National Painting Prize for Education and Rest in Madrid. That same year, he continued to travel around Castile, thus making his first contact with the city of Toledo, always very present in the artist's professional career. Throughout his career he has received numerous awards such as the bronze medal at the XVII National Exhibition of Education and Rest in Malaga in 1959, First Prize Rodriguez Acosta Foundation of Granada in 1964, Diputación de León Prize in the first National Fine Arts in 1964, Second Medal and Quintería Prize in the XVI National of Valdepeñas in 1965, Third Medal in the National of Fine Arts in 1966, First Prize of painting to the best painting that represented Bermeo in 1968, First Medal of Drawing and Second Medal of Painting in the First National Biennial of Sport in Art in 1970, among other awards.
