Joaquim Ureña i Ferrer was a Catalan painter who devoted himself exclusively to watercolor since 1974. Recognized for his large format works and his style close to hyperrealism, he was considered one of the great names of European watercolor. Landscapes, figures and corners of his own house configured a personal universe in which he showed a great facility for drawing and a special sensitivity in human treatment. His innovative conception of pictorial space was widely applauded. Throughout his career he received numerous awards, including the Morera Medal in 1998. Part of his work is preserved in the Jaume Morera Art Museum in Lérida.
