Painting linked to German expressionism. The brushstroke is expressive and impastoed. The artist does not seek to hide the strokes, but uses them to convey emotion and dynamism. The color palette, dominated by greens, ochers and yellows on a dark background, is not intended to represent real skin tones or clothing. Instead, color is used to evoke a mood, in this case, of introspection and melancholy, the subject being a psychological portrait.
