DESCRIPTION
RAFAEL SOLBES SOLBES, (Valencia, 1940 - 1981).
"Shoes".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 60 x 50 cm, 65 x 55 cm (frame).
Rafael Solbes was part since 1964, together with Manolo Valdés and Juan Antonio Toledo, of the Equipo Crónica, a project of common artistic elaboration that, after Toledo left a year later, remained active until the death of Solbes himself in 1981. During his first years, this painter developed a pictorial production of expressionist tendency, with a certain political charge, in the line of Gutiérrez Solana. Later, Equipo Crónica was born, which emerged as a reaction to informalist painting, romanticism and subjectivism, with a style in which the influence of Pop Art is evident through flat inks, depersonalized drawings and iconography created by the media used as a vehicle for critical expression. Equipo Crónica's works are currently on display at the IVAM in Valencia, the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the MACBA in Barcelona, the Juan March Foundation and the Patio Herreriano Museum in Valladolid, among others.
