JEAN FIEVET (Liège, Belgium, 1931-?).
"L'autre monde", 1983.

Jean Fievet was a Belgian painter linked to the fantastic and post-surrealist art movement. Formed in the artistic environment of post-war Belgium, his work is characterized by a dreamlike and symbolic imagination, where the real is mixed with the unreal and the poetic.
Fievet was a member of the group Fantasmagie, founded in 1958 in Brussels by the painters Aubin Pasque and Serge Hustin. This collective, together with the magazine of the same name, sought to promote a fantastic, magical and visionary art, in continuity with the Belgian surrealist legacy of artists such as Paul Delvaux and René Magritte, but with a freer, more spiritual and fantastic orientation.
The Fantasmagie movement brought together creators who explored the territories of dream, myth, metamorphosis and the occult, moving away from both rationalism and pure abstraction. Within this context, Fievet developed a personal plastic language, where suggestive forms and unreal atmospheres reflect a deep interest in the inner and mysterious dimension of existence.
Throughout his career, Jean Fievet participated in various group exhibitions of the group and in exhibitions dedicated to fantastic art in Belgium and other European countries, establishing himself as one of the representative figures of this trend in the second half of the twentieth century.
His work, although less diffused than that of some of his contemporaries, constitutes a significant testimony of Belgian fantastic art.
