Catalan painter and illustrator, Juan Orihuel was a disciple of Mares, Tenas and Clarasó, and was formed in the School of Fine Arts of Barcelona. During the civil war he devoted himself to teaching, and between 1938 and 1950 he worked in the propaganda service of the Generalitat, becoming the official painter of his city of residence, Girona, during the post-war period. During these years he began a prolific exhibition activity. As illustrator of "El Pirineo", Orihuel developed a whole symbolism of the new State with a warlike tone that can also be found in the posters he made for the Fairs and Festivals of Sant Narcís in 1943, 1944 and 1950. He also made several religious mural paintings, until he finally moved to Argentina in 1950, settling in Buenos Aires.
