Ignacio Iturria studied advertising illustration and graphic design before devoting himself fully to painting. He completes his training in the workshops of Nelson Ramos, Willy Machand, Julio Verdié and Edgardo Ribeiro in Montevideo. In 1977, determined to become a painter, he travels to Europe and settles in a city near Barcelona. During these years he furthered his studies in the workshop of Ramón Aguilar Moré, in Cadaqués. Throughout his career, Iturria has shown his work throughout Central and South America, as well as in the United States and Canada, Europe and Japan. In 1995 he won an important prize at the Venice Biennale. In recent years, in addition to his regular solo and group exhibitions at the Praxis Foundation galleries in New York and South America, and his participation in art fairs, lturria has held solo shows at the VI Havana Biennial, the Museum of Modern Art in Bogota, the Museum of the Americas in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Plug-In Art Center in Winnipeg, Canada, and the North Dakota Museum of Art (USA), among others. Ignacio Iturrria has given lectures and workshops at centers and universities in the United States, Spain and Uruguay, has received important awards such as the Grand Prize of the XII Biennial of San Juan or the Fund for Artists Colonies of the United States, and is currently represented in the José Luis Cuevas Museum of Mexico, the Museum of Fine Arts and Contemporary Art Sofia Imber of Caracas, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montevideo, the Museum of the OAS, the Robert Gumbiner Foundation of Latin American Art in Long Beach (USA), and in numerous private collections.USA) and in numerous private collections.
