DESCRIPTION

JUAN JOSÉ VERA (Guadalajara,1926-2019).
Untitled, 1991.
Oil on panel.
Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Dedicated on the back to the restaurant "Casa Emilio.
Measurements: 58,5 x 73 cm; 62 x 77 cm (frame).
Juan José Vera was born in the city of Guadalajara, although his vital and artistic career was closely linked to Zaragoza, where he settled at a young age and took his first steps in the art world. It was in this city where he forged a solid career and became an essential figure in the Aragonese art scene. Considered one of the pioneers of abstract art in Aragon, Vera played a fundamental role in the transformation of the plastic language in the region during the second half of the 20th century.
His creative restlessness and his commitment to aesthetic renovation led him to be one of the founders of the Grupo Zaragoza, a key group in the redefinition of contemporary art in Spain after the post-war period. His participation in 1949 in the I Salón de Pintura Moderna, held in the Lonja de Zaragoza, marked a decisive moment in his career. In this exhibition he shared space with members of the influential Grupo Pórtico - Santiago Lagunas, Fermín Aguayo and Eloy Laguardia - who were also committed to breaking with traditional figurative languages. Throughout his life, Vera established himself as a benchmark of modern art in Spain, leaving behind a coherent, committed and profoundly innovative oeuvre.
