Segundo Planes' painting is distinguished by the fusion of the surreal and kitsch, articulating a personal language that explores childhood, the oneiric and memory from an introspective look. Series such as Insomnio and Tópicos de la vejez show the conceptual and technical maturity of a creator who has been able to reinvent himself without losing his identity.
Made shortly after his move to Mexico, this work can be read as a visual metaphor of transit, fragility and identity transformation.
The image is dominated by a dark, almost cosmic space, crossed by a meandering white line that connects different points suspended in the void. This line functions as a narrative or vital thread, an uncertain path that refers to the physical and spiritual displacement of the artist. The figure at the lower right, ethereal and ambiguous, reinforces the notion of the "smoke man": a transitory being,
Trained at some of Cuba's most relevant institutions such as the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), the Escuela Nacional de Arte (ENA) and the Escuela Provincial de Arte de Pinar del Río, he consolidated an early academic base that has sustained a coherent and constantly evolving trajectory.
His work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in America and Europe, with outstanding shows in Mexico such as Sueño tallado en espuma and Lemas e himnos mutilados, as well as participation in international itinerant projects linked to prestigious museums and cultural centers. Recognized since the late 1980s with important national awards in Cuba, his work is now part of institutional and private collections in countries such as Cuba, Mexico, Spain, Ecuador and the United States.
