BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

ALEXIS MACEDONSKI (Romania,1884-Tarragona, 1971)
"Village in the mountain".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 83 x 102 cm; 103 x 121 x 7 cm (frame).

Panoramic view of a village settled at the foot of a rocky elevation, dominated by a hill crowned by buildings that visually structure the composition. The work reveals a clear interest in capturing the character of the place and the relationship between architecture and nature, with a direct and sincere interpretation of the landscape, typical of modern post-impressionist painting.

Alexis Macedonski was a painter of Romanian origin, son of the writer and art critic Alexandru Macedonski. He trained in Fine Arts in his hometown and, in 1905, he moved to Italy to continue his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence thanks to a state scholarship. His career had an early international projection, exhibiting at the Salon d'Automne in Paris in 1908 and at the Salon des Indépendants in 1910.

In the 1930s he settled in Mallorca, where he produced landscapes, still lifes and portraits, characterized by a rich chromatic variety and a rapid and expressive brushstroke. In 1947 he was appointed professor of Aesthetics and Art at the Maiorencis Schola Llul-ística and exhibited in several Spanish cities, with a major exhibition in Palma in 1948.
